We have launched a project to promote the wireless use of the sub-THz frequency band above 100 GHz and to create R&D and business models for its 6G implementation. This project aims to create use cases and business models for future 6G by conducting standardization activities and identifying issues for social implementation of terahertz wave wireless technology. Activities
In promoting understanding of wireless applications of the sub-THz frequency band above 100 GHz, start by elaborating on the characteristics of terahertz radio wave radio and clarify how it differs from other wireless technologies.
Discussion and provision of information for de jure standardization activities of terahertz radio (WRC-31 tentative agenda items 2.1 and 2.6) to discuss IMT identification of sub-terahertz frequency bands for implementation of terahertz radio in 6G, and to extract and narrow down features for each candidate frequency band.
In the "Creation of a list of R&D issues for implementation of terahertz wave radio in 6G," points that are still lacking in R&D and study are extracted in the areas of materials, radio systems, and rules such as radio regulations, and these are proposed as future R&D issues.
In the creation of 6G use cases for terahertz wave radio, use cases that make the most of the characteristics of terahertz wave radio will be considered based on the differences (characteristics) from other radio technologies that have been clarified.
In the creation of a 6G business model using terahertz wave radio, monetization based on the use cases created will be discussed. However, if the discussion involves sensitive issues, a secret meeting will be held for volunteers only, and this PJ will consider the provision of such an opportunity itself as an achievement.
To understand the actual situation regarding radio regulations and experimental environments for experiments in Japan and abroad, and to make recommendations for a competitive research environment.
