Project No. XGMF-2401

NTN Promotion Project

Purpose of Activity

Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) are expected to be a technology area that will develop as a coverage extension in Beyond 5G. This project aims to develop communication networks utilizing NTN technologies, including high-altitude platforms (HAPS) and satellites, and to provide a forum for discussion where users who have never used NTNs can share values while exchanging opinions with each other. In the process, we hope to identify common issues and hold discussions to resolve them. Through these activities, we aim to promote NTNs and demonstrate Japan's international initiative regarding NTNs.

Activities

  1. Updating NTN's technology roadmap and understanding related activities in overseas countries
  2. Understanding user needs for NTN-based communications and clarifying the requirements necessary to realize user needs
  3. Study of issues, etc. to realize NTN services, clarification of technologies that need to be developed, and study of solutions/measures to address the issues.
  4. Grand Design Formulation
  5. Identification of common issues and consideration of proposals (standardization, etc.) that are not industry-specific
