XGMF and Taiwan’s III Sign MoU — Signing Ceremony Held at TAIWAN SatCom Summit —

The XG Mobile Forum (XGMF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual cooperation with the Institute for Information Industry (III), a government-affiliated non-profit organization in Taiwan responsible for promoting ICT industry development and digital transformation (DX).
The signing ceremony took place on October 7, 2025, during the “Taiwan SatCom Summit” at the Taipei World Trade Center. The event was attended by Mr. Lin Chun Hsiu, Deputy Director General of the Digital Industry Department at Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Development (moda). On behalf of XGMF, Dr. Morio Toyoshima, NTN Project Leader, and Dr. Harriot Lin, Director General of III’s Digital Transformation Research Institute (DTRI), officially signed the MoU in a public ceremony.

1. Event Overview

This MoU is expected to deepen collaboration between Japan and Taiwan in the promotion of next generation communications such as 5G and 6G, jointly build an innovative ecosystem in the telecommunications sector, and accelerate expansion into the Asia Pacific market.

2. Presentation Overview

At the Taiwan SatCom Summit, Dr. Morio Toyoshima, NTN Project Leader at the XG Mobile Forum (XGMF), delivered a presentation titled “Next Generation Communications and NTN Initiatives in Japan.” He provided an overview of Japan’s NTN (Non Terrestrial Network) promotion projects, including mega constellation satellites, high throughput satellites (HTS), the development of diverse satellite platforms, satellite IoT use cases, and XGMF’s vision for the future.
Dr. Toyoshima also highlighted the development of hybrid satellites targeting 2026 and introduced the concept of the “Space Innovation Creation Platform,” which integrates space and 5G technologies. He shared updates on demonstration experiments and ground station operations.

Following this, Mr. Kanemoto from Space Shift Inc. presented AI based satellite data analysis technologies and demonstrated applications in environmental monitoring, agriculture, and disaster management.
Additionally, Mr. Marek Ostafil, co founder of SINOTAIC, spoke about trends in satellite communications in Europe and emphasized the importance of international technical collaboration.
The event concluded with a panel discussion on “Demand for Satellite Application Services and International Cooperation.” Panelists engaged in a lively discussion on the significance of international collaboration models, the use of open source and citizen technologies, and the potential for strategic alliances across borders.
