Wireless Technology Park (WTP) 2024" (organized and planned by Ric Telecom)https://www8.ric.co.jp/expo/wj/was held at Tokyo Big Sight for three days from May 29 (Wed.) to May 31 (Fri.). During the event, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the XG Mobile Promotion Forum (XGMF), for which the Radio Industries Association of Japan (RIAJ) serves as the secretariat, jointly hosted an international workshop and exhibition to promote the spread of millimeter wave, organized by the XGMF Millimeter Wave Promotion Ad Hoc (Millimeter Wave AH).
The "International Workshop on Millimeter Wave Dissemination for 5G" was held on the last day of the event with simultaneous interpretation between English and Japanese, with opening remarks by Mr. Naohiko Ogiwara, Director of the Radio Department, Telecommunications Infrastructure Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
Next, Mr. Takanori Masuko, Director of the New Generation Mobile Communications Systems Promotion Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Mr. Sam Gielges of Qualcomm (online), Mr. Christopher Price of Ericsson, Mr. Mike Smathers of Nokia (online), Mr. Daniel Liu of the Taiwan Information Industry Development Association, and Mr. Tetsuya Fukuhara of NHK Enterprises. Mr. Tetsuya Fukuhara of NHK Enterprises spoke about the efforts of the Japanese government and various companies to promote millimeter wave and the future prospects of millimeter wave applications.
Afterwards, Mr. Takehiro Nakamura, Millimeter Wave AH Chief Director, moderated a panel discussion with five panelists including Mr. Masakazu Shirota, Millimeter Wave AH Deputy Chief Director, and other lecturers.
The international workshop was attended by about 200 people.
In the exhibition booth, a large display and a mini-stage were set up, and experts from XGMF and co-exhibitors (Qualcomm Japan, NTT Docomo, Fujikura, JR Tokai, KDDI Smart Drone, Keysight Technology, and Murata Manufacturing) introduced the excellent potential of the millimeter wave band through presentations and demonstrations using commercial equipment under the theme "Promotion of Millimeter Wave for 5G/Local 5G".
